Wrestlers' Sweat Equity Pays Championship Dividends

The State Championships have come to a successful conclusion with Old Mill winning the Class 4A/3A title and Southern-Garrett claiming the Class 2A/1A crown.  Both teams won the State Dual Meet Championship in their respective classifications earlier this season for a rare "double-double".  Select the links inside the story for complete team and individual weight class results.

Old Mill edged Walt Whitman in Class 4A/3A by a score of 91-87.  Rounding out the top five teams in 4A/3A were Centennial (83.5) in third, Urbana (76) in fourth, and North Carroll (74) in fifth.  Southern-Garrett was challenged by River Hill in Class 2A/1A before prevailing 142.5 to 132.5.  Rounding out the top five teams in 2A/1A were Winters Mill (91) in third, Owings Mills (88) in fourth, and Easton (69) in fifth.

The MPSSAA extends a hearty "thank you" to not only the State Wrestling Committee, but to the huge cadre of workers and volunteers that pulled together and seamlessly managed an event of this magnitude.  We would also like to thank the University of Maryland's Campus Recreation Services for their cooperation and support in providing such a great venue.  Congratulations to each wrestler, coach, and spectator for your participation and support.  We look forward to seeing everyone again next year at Cole Field House!
