State Dual Titles Decided In Final Bouts

Those individuals lucky enough to be in attendance at the State Dual Meet Championships on 2/19 at Charles County's North Point HS were treated to a fine display of hard-nosed wrestling where the state titles were decided in the final bouts of the night.  Select the links above to view the complete results for both classifications.  (updated 2/19/14, 10:20 AM)

In the Class 2A/1A semifinals, #1 Hereford defeated #4 North Caroline, 44-33 while #3 Kent Island overcame #2 Mountain Ridge by a score of 33-25.  In the Class 4A/3A semifinals #1 Damascus downed #4 River Hill, 34-33 and #2 North Hagerstown toppled #3 Huntingtown, 43-34.  With the semifinal winners facing off for the state championship in the finals, no one could leave their seats as few points separated the champs from the finalists in both matches.  The Class 4A/3A title went to Damascus as they successfully defended their 2013 title for their fourth overall as they squeezed by North Hagerstown, 30-29.  Kent Island hauled in their first state title by virtue of their 35-33 win over Hereford in the Class 2A/1A battle.  Don't forget that you can re-live all of the excitement on-demand and order DVD's within several days of the event at the MPSSAA Network.

The MPSSAA is deeply appreciative of the patience shown by our schools and their communities and the cooperation that we received in order to complete ALL of the region dual meet tournaments.  We must also recognize the tireless efforts and flexibility of the State Wrestling Committee, especially State Dual Meet Director Dave Dodson, as their contributions were key to not only rescheduling region tournaments but the State Tournament as well.  Last but not least, we would also like to thank the staff at North Point HS, especially Athletic Director Andrew Shattuck, for their invaluable cooperation and flexibility with rescheduling and holding the State Dual Meet Tournament at their superb facilities.
