State Champs Bask In The Glow

After the dust settled at Ripken Stadium and the State Baseball Finals, four teams had grabbed state championship titles in front of supportive and appreciative crowds enjoying the beautiful holiday weekend.  Select the links above to view the complete tournament brackets and results for each classification.

In the Class 4A Final on Friday, 5/23 Chesapeake-AA shut out Sherwood, 2-0 for their second state baseball title and first in 17 years.  Class 1A got things started on Saturday as Smithsburg bested Sparrows Point, 9-0 for their first ever state crown.  Play continued with a Class 2A nail-biter as Southern-AA prevailed over Parkside, 3-2 for their first title in 12 years and third overall.  Tournament play ended with the Class 3A Final and another first time state champ as Reservoir prevailed over North Harford, 2-0.  At the conclusion of the tournament, Sparrows Point was awarded the Paul Farhner Sportsmanship Award.  Don't forget to relive every exciting moment with free on-demand viewing and DVD purchases within days of the original contest on the MPSSAA Network.

Our thanks go to the State Baseball Committee, led by Jason Woodward, for working tirelessly throughout the season and post-season to provide a first class tournament experience for the participants.  Our appreciation goes out to the four state semifinal sites and site directors as well as to the staff at Ripken Stadium for the use of their terrific facility.  We cannot wait to see what next season will bring.  Best wishes for a safe and relaxing summer to all!
