MPSSAA Football Rules Interpreter Bill Witte Stepping Down At Conclusion of 2020-2021

The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) Football Rules Interpreter, Mr. Bill Witte, has decided to step down at the conclusion of the 2020-2021 academic year.  Mr. Witte was appointed by the MPSSAA in July, 2010, and has been a solid foundation for the professional growth of football officials across the state.

During Mr. Witte’s tenure, the MPSSAA expanded from five-man crews to six-man crews for all state tournament contests.  Mr. Witte has been the architect of the six-man manual used by officials across the state to ensure proper mechanics and positioning.  Mr. Witte also led the charge on upgrading professional growth of officials, utilizing video and teaching techniques to provide almost weekly training to officials during the course of the season.  Mr. Witte most recently served as the Section II representative on the National Federation of State High School Associations Football Official’s Manual Committee, completing a four-year term.

Mr. Witte is a professor at Montgomery College and has an extensive background in football at many levels.  He has officiated both at the college and high school level as well as in the American Indoor Football Association.  His experience on the field coupled with his expertise in technology has been a valuable asset to the MPSSAA for many years and on behalf of the association, we wish him the very best.

The MPSSAA will be announcing a search for a new Football Rules Interpreter in the coming days.  Please check back at www.mpssaa.org for the latest on the position opening.
