Champs Prove Consistency Is Key

The 2013 State Golf Championships are in the books with three champs successfully defending their titles and a new individual Boys' Champion crowned after a one hole play-off.  Select the links above for the combined final results, results by classification, and pictures of the champions.  (updated 11/19/13, 9:30 AM)

The tournament ended on an exciting note as a playoff was held for first place on the Boys' side.  Glenelg's Steven Segrit and Wootton's Justin Feldman shot identical 73's for both rounds to be deadlocked at the end of 36 holes with scores of 146.  It took only one playoff hole to decide the final winner as Segrit prevailed over Feldman for the top spot.  Meanwhile on the Girls' side, Bryana Nguyen of Atholton successfully defended her 2012 title by shooting 66/68 for an overall tournament best total of 134.  Coming in second to Nguyen was Delaney Shah of Wootton who turned in scores of 72/69 for the second best overall tournament score with a 141.

Last year's team champions were also successful in defending their crowns as Marriotts Ridge easily outdistanced runner-up Poolesville with a team score of 614 to 685 for the Class 2A/1A title.  In Class 4A/3A, Thomas Wootton had a tougher time in holding onto their title by virtue of their five stroke win over Winston Churchill, 633 to 638.

We would like to thank our State Golf Committee for their committment and hard work thisseason which helped to  make this year's tournament a success.  Thanks also to the staff at the University of Maryland College Park Golf Course for their hospitality and generosity in hosting our state tournament at their site. We look forward to seeing everyone again out on the links next fall!
