2009 Basketball Finals Dominated By Baltimore City

Baltimore City took home five state basketball titles yesterday as the winter season came to a thrilling conclusion.  Impressively, City College and Digital Harbor won both the boy's and girl's championships in their respective classifications.  Lake Clifton's boys' team added to the haul by topping off an undefeated season with the Class 3A crown.  Results and statistics for every game are available inside of this story.

Tournament sportsmanship awards were also presented to a boy's and girl's team displaying the best overall sportsmanship while participating in the semifinals, finals, or both.  The Jack Willard Sportsmanship Award recipient was the boy's team from Frederick Douglass HS in Prince George's County.  At the girl's tournament, River Hill HS was presented with the Mildred Haney Murray Sportsmanship Award.  Congratulations to both schools for "Respecting The Game"!

The MPSSAA also extends congratulations to all of the schools that participated in this year's tournament and we appreciate your cooperation and support throughout. Our sincerest gratitude to our State Basketball Committees and Tournament Directors for another outstanding job of planning these big events and to the "team" of workers at each tournament site that helped to execute that plan. Once again, we cannot thank the University of Maryland College Park and Baltimore County enough for their hospitality, cooperation, and support in working with us to provide first class facilities for our championships such as the Comcast Center and RAC Arena.
