The State Wrestling Tournament is all wrapped up after three days of top-notch wrestling at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro. The first fourteen girls state champions were crowned in the inaugural girls tournament while two three-time state champs and four two-time state champs highlighted the 4A/3A and 2A/1A tournaments. All of the region wrestling tournaments were successfully completed this weekend as the top four place winners in each weight class of the coed divisions and the top two winners in each weight class of the girls division have qualified to compete for a state title at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro on Thursday, 3/5 through Saturday, 3/7. Defending Champions Sweep The 2020 State Wrestling Dual Meet Titles!!

Impressively, all four of last year's State Champions successfully defended their titles for a clean sweep of the 2020 State Wrestling Dual Meet Championships at North Point HS in Waldorf. Headlining the day was Damascus in Class 3A as they won their eighth consecutive title and tenth overall, both state records. Few things are as tough to earn or as sweet to win as an individual State Wrestling title. After two days of hard-nosed competition, twenty-eight student-athletes were bestowed with the title of state champion. Even more impressive were the six athletes that repeated as two-time champs, the three that became three-time champs, and Centennial's Jason Kraisser (152 lbs.) who joined the exclusive four-time champions club. State Dual Meet Wrestling Champs Battle It Out To Win 2019 Crowns!!

A full day of hard-nosed wrestling concluded with two new state Dual Meet champions and two successful Dual Meet title defenses. Damascus maintained their streak of titles with their 9th overall and 7th consecutive in winning the Class 2A crown while county-mate Springbrook brought home their 1st state title in Class 4A. Southern-Garrett also successfully defended their crown in Class 1A for their 3rd overall as Stephen Decatur prevailed over Linganore to win their 2nd title in Class 3A.

Highlighting the field of defending champs was North Hagerstown's Aaron Brooks who joined the elite group of 4-time winners with his gold medal in the 182-lb. weight class.
