Championship weekend got underway on Friday, 5/25 with Liberty edging McDonough 3-2 for the Class 2A championship, their first state softball title ever.  Next, the Class 4A trophy went to Sherwood by virtue of their shutout win over Chesapeake-AA, 1-0.  This also was Sherwood's first ever state title in softball. Saturday, 5/26 title play continued with the Class 1A final.  Mountain Ridge won their first state title as they edged Mardela, 4-3.  Class 3A wrapped things up when Northern-Calvert won their ninth crown overall and fifth in a row, a new State record, as they rolled past Linganore, 10-0.

The MPSSAA owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to the State Softball Committee and Director Lynn Pitonzo for their time, effort, and persitence in not only getting the region tournaments done on time, but for working at and running the State Semifinals and Finals. Our appreciation is also extended to the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation & Parks for the use of the Bachman Complex.  It is truly a pleasure to work with professionals who take pride in the appearance of their facility.  Thanks also to the Athletic Department and staff at the University of Maryland for their time, effort, and sweat in providing a memorable state championship experience for our student-athletes at the Robert Taylor Stadium. We cannot wait to see what excitement next year brings!
