And Then There was One...

One champion has been crowned in each of the four classifications as the State Finals came to a rousing conclusion on Saturday.  Two teams completed undefeated seasons while winning their respective state titles, one team won their first ever state football title, and another battled the elements as well as their opponent on the way to their second title.      Class 3A kicked things off on Thursday as #3 Franklin had all they could handle with #1 Linganore before reeling in the first ever state football title in school history by a score of 20-7.  Class 4A followed on Friday in soupy weather with #3 Northwest holding off  #1 Suitland's second half surge for their second state football title by a score of 33-16.  Saturday's slate began with the Class 1A title going to undefeated #2 Fort Hill as they bested #1 Frederick Douglass of Baltimore City by a score of 25-0 for their third state title and first since 1997.  Class 2A wrapped things up as undefeated #2 Middletown completed a three-peat in successfully defending their title against #1 Patuxent, 17-3.

These Finals would not have been possible without the first class cooperation that we receive from The Maryland Stadium Authority and the Baltimore Ravens to utilize M&T Bank Stadium as our venue. We would also like to thank our tournament workers, each member of the State Football Committee, led by Director Mike Calhoun, the Region Tournament Directors, and the host school sites during the playoffs for their valuable time and effort throughout the season and each tournament round.  Next season is already full of more hope and promise. See you next fall!
