2016 State Softball Champions Out Hit The Competition!!

The State Softball Finals at the University of Maryland Softball Stadium came to a steamy conclusion as teams put on a hitting display with lots of runs scored and action on the base paths. Two first time state titles were won by Perryville (1A) and La Plata (2A), while Westminster (3A) won their 3rd crown, and Sherwood (4A) successfully defended their title for the 5th year in a row! The 2016-17 NFHS rule changes for winter sports have arrived with the links to the Basketball and Wrestling rules press releases in addition to the previously released Swimming & Diving rule changes contained inside of this story. Further information regarding the rule changes for each winter sport may be accessed on the NFHS website by going under "Activities & Sports" and selecting the desired winter sport.

The latest issue of SCOUT magazine is out with all sorts of important news, reminders, and information regarding the upcoming post-season for spring sports. We want to highlight two big changes which have taken place with the State Baseball and State Tennis Championships. In addition, the entry and penalty deadlines for the region track and field meet schedule have been corrected and re-posted on our website.

Wilson Will Continue As The Official Baseball Of The MPSSAA For 2017-21!!

Wilson Sporting Goods has been selected by the MPSSAA Executive Council as the official baseball again for the next five-year contract period beginning with the 2017 season and lasting through the 2021 season. The Wilson A1010BPROSST baseball will continue to be required for region and state tournament play and highly recommended for play throughout the regular season.

Friday night at the Girls State Basketball Tournament at SECU Arena, the MPSSAA proudly honored Ms. Milly Wilson for her dedication to the student-athletes of Maryland for the past 43 years. Milly has worked every state girls basketball tournament with the exception of the first one. She is a fixture at region and state championships and best known for being at the other end of the telephone collecting region results when faxes, emails, texts, and social media were in their infancy.
