The 2018 Region meets for Indoor Track and Field are complete as the qualifying teams and individuals have been determined for the State Championship meets on Monday, February 19th and Tuesday, February 20th at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover. Four separate State Dual Meet Wrestling Team Champions were crowned yesterday at North Point HS for the first time ever in the 24-year history of the State Duals. Damascus HS headlined the day by winning their 6th consecutive state crown and 8th overall in garnering the Class 2A title. Once again, due to inclement weather and poor road conditions closing some school systems today (2/7), we have had to postpone/reschedule some indoor track region meets, some dual wrestling region tournaments, and some officials' rules interpretation meetings. Kudos to the members of the MPSSAA State Wrestling Committee for the vision and energy behind the first MPSSAA Girls Wrestling Invitational Tournament which took place on Saturday, 2/3 at Northeast HS in Anne Arundel County! The goal of the invitational was to further increase the interest and participation of females in the sport of wrestling which is showing rapid growth around the country. "Become A Sports Official" Page Launched On MPSSAA.Org!!

The MPSSAA registers officials in numerous sports but those numbers are declining and we need to reverse that trend and provide assistance in the recruitment of individuals that are interested in becoming officials. Therefore, back in August, we launched a new page in the Officials section of our website entitled "Become A Sports Official" which includes an interest form that collects the necessary information for our office to pass along to the designated officials' groups to follow-up on.

The MPSSAA congratulates Ron Belinko, retired Coordinator of Athletics for Baltimore County Public Schools, on being one of six high school athletic directors inducted into the ninth Hall of Fame class of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association December 12 in Phoenix, Arizona, during banquet festivities at the 48th annual National Athletic Directors Conference co-sponsored by the NIAAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations.
