The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) Board of Control met on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at the BWI Marriott. The Board of Control heard updates from sport committees as well as took action on a number of agenda items.
The MPSSAA Board of Control officially approved Spring Sport Bulletins, accepted the Spring 2020 and preliminary Fall 2021 financial report, and approved a set of COMAR amendments to be considered by local school Superintendents and the State Board of Education. The proposed amendments as approved by the Board of Control address scheduling flexibility through the season, team participation outside the defined sport season in NFHS/MPSSAA sanctioned events, and provide equity in student access to school system approved summer camps.
The MPSSAA Board of Control accepted the MPSSAA Nomination Committee’s recommendation, making Mr. Michael Sye, Supervisor of Athletics for Baltimore County, as the 49th President of the MPSSAA. Mr. Sye will begin his duties as President on June 1, 2022. In addition, Dr. Jeffrey Sullivan, Director of Systemwide Athletics, was approved by the Board to become the next President-Elect of the association, beginning his term on June 1, 2022.
