The State Swimming and Diving Championships came to another impressive conclusion at the Eppley Recreation Center on the campus of the University of Maryland - College Park as four first-time champs were crowned in Boys and Girls Diving and in Class 4A/3A Swimming.  The Poolesville Boys and Girls continued their dominance in Class 3A/2A/1A Swimming as they both successfully defended their titles. Select the links below for complete State and Region meet results.

Diving kicked off the action on Friday night as Sherwood reigned supreme on the boards with two first-time champs.  Lilia Atanda topped Rockville's Callie Borda by a score of 406.10 to 393.30 for the Girls title while Michael Parker defeated teammate and defending champion Max Weinrich, 494.65 to 485.55 for the Boys crown.

Saturday began with the Class 4A/3A meet where the Girls from Bethesda-Chevy Chase outscored Walter Johnson 314.5 to 284.5 for their first ever swim title.  The Walt Whitman Boys also brought the championship hardware home for the first time as they downed Winston Churchill, 338 to 275.  The Class 3A/2A/1A meet followed on Saturday afternoon as the Poolesville Boys and Girls repeated a familiar script.  The Girls outscored Damascus 338.5 to 280 for their sixth consecutive state title and seventh overall.  Meanwhile, the Boys also topped Damascus by a score of 374 to 259 to continue as the only boys team to win the state title in this classification with their ninth consecutive state championship!  Additional congratulations go to our Sportsmanship Award winners.  Kudos to the teams from Severna Park (4A/3A) and Patterson Mill (3A/2A/1A).  Way to go!

Our deepest appreciation to the University of Maryland's Campus Recreation Services for the use of Eppley Recreation Center for our State Meets.  We are so fortunate to have the level of cooperation and assistance we continually receive from the CRS staff.  Many thanks to the State Swimming and Diving Committee, many of whom ran region meets in addition to working the state meets.  Somehow these hard-working educators find the time to take on these additional responsibilities, and we are grateful.  A special note of appreciation to State Committee Director Kevin Kendro, State Meet Director Christopher Bley, Diving Director Michael Good, and Entry Coordinator Michael Kokoski for all of your valuable, time, effort, and expertise throughout this post-season.  We will look forward to seeing everyone back in the pool next year!

Don't forget that you can relive every exciting moment for free on-demand at the NFHS Network.  In addition, Nightmare Graphics has opened an online store to sell additional souvenir championship apparel.  The store will remain open until March 2nd with free shipping on deliveries which will go out the week of 3/13.
