Saturday's play began with Class 3A as Northern-Calvert completed an udefeated season and won their fourth title in a row by topping a determined Howard team by a score of 3-0. In Class 2A Easton won their sixth state title by battling past a tough Lansdowne squad, 8-5.  Catoctin rolled by Loch Raven for the Class 1A State Championship, 10-0 in 6 innings.  The final game of the day was the Class 4A title game where Urbana downed Chesapeake-AA , 5-3 in a battle of unbeaten teams.  Last and definitely not least, the tournament Sportsmanship Award was won by C. Milton Wright HS for demonstrating the best overall sportsmanship in the tournament and truly "respecting the game".

The MPSSAA appreciates the hard work and flexibility of our schools and athletic departments in completing the region tournament on time in spite of the inclement weather and tough field conditions. Everyone's spirit of cooperation allowed the State tournament to take place as scheduled and we thank you.  Thanks also go to the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks for the use of Bachman Softball Complex for all eight state semifinal games.  It also goes without saying how indebted we are to the athletic department at the University of Maryland - College Park and their staff for the use of Robert E. Taylor Stadium to hold our event.  The level of cooperation that we receive is superb year after year and we look forward to returning again next year.  See you there in 2012!
