Runners braved the cold and wind at Saturday's State Cross Country meets at Hereford as four teams successfully defended last year's titles and three male runners achieved noteworthy performances. River Hill's Anish Nanjappa set a new Class 2A record with his top ten of all time clocking of 15:58.08. Earlier in the day, Class 4A Northwood's Obsaa Feda and Eldad Mulugeta dueled to the finish as they both posted top ten all time runs of 15:44.05 and 15:44.29 respectively.

The field hockey season may have come to a cold, blustery close at Washington College on Saturday, but the energy and spirit on the field and in the stands was hot with excitement and enthusiasm! C. Milton Wright started the day by winning the Class 3A title followed by Class 4A champ South River. The Class 1A crown was won by South Carroll and the Class 2A title went to Liberty. Congratulations also go to Kent Island HS for winning the tournament sportsmanship award. Way to go!

The air may have been chilly but the play sizzled as the 2018 State Golf Championships came to a close at the venerable University of Maryland - College Park Golf Course this afternoon with some playoff action deciding the two boys titles. On the team side, Marriotts Ridge continued their stranglehold on the Class 2A/1A title with their 7th consecutive state crown and in Class 4A/3A, Urbana won their 4th state golf title. MPSSAA Mourns The Passing of Pioneer Patricia Barry

We are extremely sad to share the news that Patricia "Pat" Barry, longtime Coordinator of Montgomery County Public School Athletics (MCPS), passed away Thursday night, 9/6. Pat was a champion for equity and a true pioneer in the field of athletic administration, serving not only MCPS but the MPSSAA in multiple capacities. Pat served as MPSSAA President from 1994-1996 and on many State Tournament Committees, including the MPSSAA Girls Basketball State Tournament.
