Enthusiastic, energetic, and frenetic crowds cheered loudly all day long and when the last whistle sounded, two teams had successfully defended their 2016 titles and two new teams earned 2017 state crowns.  Click on the links below for a summary of State Final results, official match statistics, and the complete brackets for each classification.

Saturday's Finals began with Oakdale (2A) coming back to win in 4 games for their second state title.  Northwest (4A) followed a similar script taking 4 games to win their third overall and third consecutive state championship.  In Class 1A, Smithsburg retained their hold on the state title for a fourth consecutive time and their thirteenth overall.  The day wrapped up with Northern-Calvert pounding their way to their eleventh state crown.  Additional kudos to the Smithsburg Leopards for being the recipient of the Lesley W. Cooke Tournament Sportsmanship Award.  Well done!

Don't forget that unlimited free viewing and DVD purchases will be available, under normal circumstances, within days of the original contest on the NFHS Network.  The MPSSAA appreciates the efforts of the State Volleyball Committee, led by Director Sybil Kessinger, in putting this tournament  together from the first round of the region tournaments to the Finals.  A special thank you to the wonderful staff at the University of Maryland's Campus Recreation Services for the use of Ritchie Coliseum for five days. The cooperation and assistance that you give us is...priceless!  Congratulations also to all of the officials, coaches, and teams that participated in this year's tournament for the exciting play put on display for all of the spectators to appreciate and enjoy.  We look forward to seeing the same enthusiastic crowds at next year's tournament!
