The deadline for registration for the Girl's Golf Challenge has passed and the field of participants is now set for Saturday, October 3rd.  Participants should click on the links inside of the story to see their group assigment and to view the list of event reminders. (updated 10/1/09)

This tournament for female golfers is being offered in addition to the state tournament in order to provide support for the growth of girl's golf in the high school ranks.  "It's great to be able to assist the MPSSAA by hosting the Girl's Golf Challenge and provide support in the growth of junior golf, especially for girls," said Jonathan Ladd, Executive Director for the Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation, who operates the Classic Five Golf Courses.  He added, "We have junior golf programs at each of the five city-owned golf courses that are utilized by hundreds of children.  Working with the MPSSAA is a natural fit for us and our courses, and it is a pleasure to provide what we can to Maryland's public high school golfers."

There will be three different events being run simultaneously on Saturday, October 3rd at Forest Park Golf Course designed to accommodate all skill levels.  Beginning with a shotgun start at 1:00 PM is an 18-hole stroke play tournament for the better golfers and a 9-hole stroke play tournament for the average golfers.  Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each of the tournaments.  In addition to the tournament play, a 3-hour clinic and skills challenge for up to 50 novice players will be conducted on site beginning at 2:00 pm.  The clinic will be conducted by teaching and club professionals from around the state working with small groups of golfers in rotating stations on full swing technique, pitching, chipping, and putting. Station sessions will culminate with competitive "Skills Challenges" where prizes will be awarded.

Forest Park Golf Course is located at 2900 Hillsdale Road, Baltimore 21207 and the parking lot is across the street from the clubhouse. For additional golf course information and directions, please go to www.classic5golf.com and click on "Forest Park".
