The 2017 State Tennis Tournament proved to be difficult for the defending champs at the beautiful Wilde Lake Tennis Center this weekend.  Wootton's Joseph Brailovsky outlasted Pikesville's Jake Fishkin to retain his Boys Singles title while in Mixed Doubles, Walter Johnson's Ethan Kowalski teamed up with new partner Anna Radeviciute to retain that crown over Mt. Hebron's Tess Weber and Michael Kimack.  Select the links below to view a results summary as well as the complete state brackets for each of the five events: Boys Singles,  Girls Singles, Boys Doubles, Girls Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.

Ayana Akli of Wheaton downed three-time defending champ Miranda Deng of Wootton to win the Girls Singles title, 6-2, 6-0.  In Boys Doubles, Churchill's William Karpinski and Michael Chen dethroned Whitman's Jack Welch and Andrew Leung, 6-3, 6-3. Girls Doubles defending champions Carina Greenberg and Sarinah Wahl of Whitman fell in a close match to Abby Thornton and Veronica Cueller of Marriotts Ridge, 6-4, 7-6 (5).

Congratulations to all of our participants, coaches, officials, and spectators for another memorable season.  Our thanks to the staff Wilde Lake Tennis Center for their superior hospitality and cooperation as our tournament finals site.  Last but not least, a hearty thank you to the members of State Tennis Committee, led by Jean Vanderpool, for their invaluable time and effort all season long in addition to organizing and running the region tournaments.  We hope to see everyone back at Wilde Lake Tennis Center next year for more awesome displays of shot-making skill and strategy!
