The 2023 MPSSAA Volleyball State Championships were held on November 18 at APGFCU Arena on the campus of Harford Community College.

Class 1A - This match featured rivals from Washington County, the Smithsburg Leopards and Clear Spring Blazers.  Both sides knew this would be a battle.  Smithsburg had swept their regular season match and was hoping to do that once again.  The Leopards are extremely impressive, and difficult to beat, in state championship finals, going 14-1 overall.  In the only 5-setter of the day, the Blazers came out with a 3-2 victory, capturing back-to-back championships and their fifth title overall.

Class 2A - Centennial returned to the state final after 10 years.  Although the Eagles have 14 state championships on their resume, their last taste of victory in the final match was in 2008, with disappointing losses in 2010 and 2012.  They faced a Calvert team who also had not been in a final since 2012, though in a different classification.  It was not meant to be for the Cavaliers as Centennial secured their 15th state championship by taking the match 3-0. The Eagles also took sole possession of 2nd place on the all-time list of girls volleyball state championships.

Class 3A - 2022 Class 4A finalist, the Arundel Wildcats, returned to the championship match in their new classification, hoping to win their third championship trophy in four straight attempts.  The problem is they needed to go through defending champion, the North Hagerstown Hubs.  In an extremely competitive match whose final score of 3-0 did not do it justice, the Hubs held off the Wildcats to capture back-to-back championships and their fifth overall.

Class 4A - The Leonardtown Raiders and Richard Montgomery Rockets are not on a list of usual state title contenders in volleyball.  As a matter of fact, the Raiders' only final was in 2021, a loss to Arundel, and the Rockets were competing in their first championship match.  After Richard Montgomery took the first two sets, Leonardtown battled back to win the third.  Not letting a third set loss get to them, the Rockets regrouped and overpowered the Raiders to win their first state championship.
