2023 Cross Country Championships Recap

The 2023 Cross Country State Championships were run on November 11 at annual host, Hereford High School.  By the end of the meet, 1,084 runners completed the course.  Please read on to see fun facts about this year's championships and to view the final results.

GIRLS

  • Both Hereford (2A) and Severna Park (3A) won back-to-back titles with Severna Park winning in Class 4A in 2022.  Hereford claimed their 15th title overall and Severna Park won their 8th.  Smithsburg (1A) won their 6th championship and Walter Johnson (4A) claimed their 11th.
  • Caroline Gregory of Frederick returns to the top of the podium after becoming the Class 4A champion.  She had previously finished first in Class 3A in 2021.

BOYS

  • Towson was the only boys team to repeat as champions this year, capturing the 3A trophy.  This was their 6th overall championship.
  • Liberty (1A) won their 8th title and Centennial (2A) their 5th.
  • Albert Einstein (4A) took home the school's first boys cross country championship.  They had finished as a runner-up on four previous occasions with the most recent being in 2010.
  • Two runners finished with times that will land them in the Top 10 of fastest times at the championships on the 3-mile Hereford course.  (Eventual placement on list is in parentheses.)
