State Golf Titles Are In The Bag

Three new champions and one repeat champion rose to the top out of this year's State Golf Tournament field at the University of Maryland College Park Golf Course.  Individual honors go to Elyse Smidinger of Arundel HS on the girls' side and Connor Tendall of Wootton HS on the boys' side.  The Class 4A/3A team title was retained by Urbana HS while North Carroll claimed the Class 2A/1A team crown.  Links with complete results and winners photos are available above.

In the individual competition, Wootton's Tendall shot a 71/72 for a two-stroke victory over his nearest competitors Bart George of Broadneck HS and Cas Dickerson of McDonough HS.  Only four strokes separated all of the other top ten boys' medalists.  Arundel's Smidinger posted a 72/71 for a total of 143 for a six-stroke victory over Bryana Nguyen of Atholton HS in the girls' competition. Likewise on the girls' side, five strokes separated the other top five medalists.

North Carroll HS took home the Class 2A/1A team title by eight strokes over runner-up McDonough by shooting a  team score over the two days of 632.  In Class 4A/3A, Urbana held off Damascus to retain the title they won last year by three strokes, 618-621.

We would like to thank our State Golf Committee for their committment and hard work this season which helped to  make this year's tournament a success.  Thanks also to the staff at the University of Maryland College Park Golf Course for their hospitality and generosity in hosting our state tournament at their site. We look forward to seeing everyone again out on the links next fall!
