State Champs Put Their Stamp On Fine Seasons

The State Finals at M&T Bank Stadium concluded on 12/1 bringing the fall season to an memorable end.  Three teams repeated as winners from last year while one team brought home the championship trophy for the first time in school history.  Relive each exciting game moment on demand or by purchasing official game DVD's on MPSSAANETWORK.com. (updated 12/3/13, 4:00 PM)

Class 3A kicked-off championship weekend on Thursday with a thrilling come from behind win by River Hill who successfully defended their title over upset-minded Huntingtown, 18-14.  This was River Hill's fourth state title overall.  Friday night's Class 4A battle was another nailbiting finish as Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. won their first ever state crown by virtue of their 12-7 defeat of Quince Orchard.  Saturday began with the Class 1A tilt where Dunbar rolled to their third consecutive and ninth overall state title over New Town, who was making their first ever appearance in the State Final.  Championship weekend ended with a rematch of last year's Class 2A final game as Middletown won their second consecutive and second overall state title over Frederick Douglass-PG, 30-12.  Middletown also took home the John H. Cox Football Sportsmanship Award for the second time in the last three years. Congratulations, Knights!

The MPSSAA extends congratulations to all of the schools that participated in this year's tournament. Our sincerest gratitude to the State Football Committee, especially Director Mike Calhoun, and all of the region tournament directors for another outstanding job of planning leading up to this culminating event. Once again, we cannot thank the Maryland Stadium Authority, the Baltimore Ravens, and their many partners enough for their hospitality, cooperation, and support in working with us to provide first class facilities for our football championships.  And last but not least, thank you fans for your support. Hope to see you again next fall!
