Spectators were treated to impressive pitching, spectacular fielding, and timely hitting this past weekend at the University of Maryland - College Park's Softball Stadium as one school successfully defended last year's title and three others added the 2018 State Softball Champions trophy to previously earned state titles.  Click on the links below for State Final and State Semifinal results along with the complete tournament brackets for each classification.

Title play began on Friday night with Class 2A as La Plata squeaked out a 3-2 win for their second state crown.  The Class 3A game followed with Huntingtown posting a shutout by a score of 5-0 for their fourth state championship.  On Saturday, play began with Class 1A as Bohemia Manor came from behind to defend last year's title in a weather interrupted game winning 4-2 for their fifth overall state title.  Class 4A concluded Saturday's play a little later than expected due to heavy rains and lightning as Severna Park won in shutout fashion in 5 innings, 13-0.  This was Severna Park's third state crown but first since 2003. The final piece of tournament hardware, the Eugene Robertson Sportsmanship Award, went to Reservoir HS.  Way to "Respect the Game"!!

The MPSSAA appreciates the hard work and flexibility of our schools and athletic departments in completing the region tournament on time in spite of an overabundance of rain.  Everyone's spirit of cooperation allowed the State tournament to take place as scheduled and we thank you!  Thanks also go to our State Semifinal host site, site directors, and the field crew at the Bachman Softball/Baseball Complex in Anne Arundel County.  It also goes without saying how indebted we are to State Committee Director Lynn Pitonzo along with the administration and staff at the University of Maryland - College Park for the use of their fantastic Softball Stadium to hold our event.  An additional tip of the cap goes to the members of the State Softball Committee who jumped into action on Saturday to help get the field in shape for play to resume and finish.  Thanks to all for your patience, we appreciate it.  Let's hope for a drier 2019!!
