State Champion Golfers Are Cream Of The Crop

New champions for every title sprouted out of this year's State Golf Tournament field at Potomac Ridge Golf Course.  Individual honors go to Alex Hoffmann of Middletown HS on the boys' side and Diana Brown of Churchill HS on the girls' side.  Team titles were earned by Urbana HS in Class 4A/3A and Middletown HS in Class 2A/1A.  Links with complete results are available above. (updated 10/26/09)

In the individual competition, Middletown's Hoffman shot a 74/72 for a four-stroke victory over his nearest competitor Andrew Yakubik of Damascus HS.  Only a stroke or two separated all of the other top ten boys' medalists.  Churchill's Diana Brown posted a 78/76 for a total of 154 for a five-stroke victory over McKenzie Cutter of North Point HS in the girls' competition. Likewise on the girls' side, only a stroke or two separated the other top five medalists.

Middletown HS took home the Class 2A/1A team title by ten strokes over runner-up Marriotts Ridge by shooting a consistent team score over the two days of 347/348 for a final total of 695.  In Class 4A/3A, Urbana capitalized on the lead they built on the first day of play to shoot 327/325 for an eight-stroke victory over second place Churchill.

We would like to thank our State Golf Committee for their hard work this season and their help in making this year's tournament a success.  Thanks also to the staff at Potomac Ridge Golf Course for their superb hospitality and generosity in hosting our state tournament at their site.
