Class 1A got things rolling when Dunbar achieved their 14th state title and third in a row by topping New Town by a score of 60-36.  Patterson earned their first ever state basketball title in the Class 3A game by an eleven point margin over Thomas Stone, 86-75.  In the Class 2A match up, Lake Clifton outlasted Largo, 70-64 for their 4th state title and first since 2009.  The final game of the day went down to the wire before Magruder prevailed over Roosevelt, 39-36, to raise the Class 4A Championship trophy for the second time in their history and the first time since 2001. Last, but not least, the annual Jack Willard Tournament Sportsmanship Award went to Largo HS.

The MPSSAA congratulates all of the schools and their communities that participated in this year's tournament.  We appreciate the cooperation and support received throughout. Our sincerest gratitude to our State Basketball Committee and Region Tournament Directors for all of their hard work throughout the season and leading up to the States.  A special thanks to Tournament Director Greg LeGrand for another outstanding job of planning this big event and to the "team" of workers at the tournament site that helped to execute that plan. Once again, we cannot thank the University of Maryland College Park enough for their hospitality, cooperation, and support in working with us to provide first class facilities such as the Comcast Center for our championships.  We can't wait to see what next year brings!
