Reaching The Top Is Sweet For State Champs

Four title games were played and four tough victories were claimed by the newly crowned state girls basketball champions.  Harford County won two classification titles with Joppatowne winning the Class 1A Championship and Fallston winning the Class 2A Championship. Anne Arundel County's Arundel took home the Class 4A State trophy while the Class 3A title went to Seneca Valley of Montgomery County.

Both Seneca Valley and Joppatowne won the first ever girls state basketball championships in their school's histories.  Fallston's added to last year's 3A title by winning their second overall and second consecutive state championship in two different classifications. This year's 4A crown was the fourth for Arundel and their first since 2004 in seven appearances at UMBC this decade.

Complete brackets and game statistics from every semifinal and final game are available by selecting the desired link above.  Verizon FiOS1 will be airing all 4 of the girl state final games on their Verizon FiOS TV Channel 1.  Visit www.fios1news.com or www.mpssaa.org to find out the dates and times of the broadcasts.

The MPSSAA is extremely appreciative of the cooperation that we received from school systems, administrators, coaches, officials, players, and fans in order to complete ALL of the region tournament games on schedule.  We would also like to recognize the extraordinary time and effort put in by the Girls State Basketball Tournament Committee as well as the legion of dedicated tournament workers without whom this tournament would not have been possible.  Our thanks also go to UMBC's Athletic Department for making the RAC Arena available to us and for their cooperation and assistance with making the Girls State Basketball Tournament the special event that it is.
