Indoor Track State Championship Results

All four classifications are now complete for the State Indoor Track Championships. Below is a wrap up of the 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A meets.  Click on the links above for full results of each of the state meets. 

Poolesville (53) won the girl's 1A state title, beating second place South Carroll (43) by 10. In Class 2A, Middletown won the championship with a score of 48 and Loch Raven followed with a score of 31.

In boy's action, Digital Harbor (70) won the Class 1A title and Glenelg (48) finished second. Poly won the 2A championship with a score of 54, followed by Middletown with a 36.

Several class records were broken during the day. During the boy's 2A meet, Avery Graham of Clarksburg beat the previous 55m record of 6.50 seconds by one tenth of a second crossing the finish line in 6.49 seconds. The Poly 4 x 200 relay team shaved of just over 1 second from the old record of 1:33.81 to claim the new record in 1:32.71. John Hill of Walkersville cleared 6' 8" in the high jump to set a new class record. The previous record was 6' 6". In 1A action, Scott Rice of Boonsboro cleared 13' 2" in the pole vault, beating the old record by 1". (13' 1").

On the 2A girl's side, Aunye Boone of Calvert finished the 300m in 40.08 which set a new record. During the 1A meet Alyssa McClure of Digital Harbor broke the former 55m record by seven tenths recording a 7.23. Tyshia Oliver of Reginald Lewis set a new record by almost two seconds in the 500m crossing the finish line in 1:16.94. The previous record was 1:18.3. Western STES broke the 1:47.27 record in the 1A    4 x 200 relay with a time of 1:45.72.

The Class 3A girl's state championship was won by B-CC (43) followed by second place Westlake (42).

Class 3A girls had one record broken by funmi Alabi of Long Reach. She shaved off 8 tenths of a second in the 55m dash and set not only a new class record, but a new meet record as well.

Meade captured the boy's 4A title with a score of 70 and the Westlake boys also came in second (51).

Six records were broken in boy's 3A. The Westlake 800m and 1600m relay teams set new class records during the meet. The 800m relay team, which also set a meet record,  won in 1:28.99 and the 1600m relay team won in 3:25.31. The 3200m relay class and meet records were also broken this year. Damascus set the new mark at 8:07.25. Devon Smith of Westlake set a new 55m record with a time of 6.39 seconds. Westlake also set a new 300m record when Kenard harris finished in 34.58 seconds. William Zahorodny of Damascus ran a 1:04.71 to set a new class 3A 500m record. Joey Thompson of Howard ran a 4:21.35 1600m to capture the new record in that event.

Eleanor Roosevelt won the 4A girl's state title with a score of 88. Flowers came in second scoring 50.

In boy's action, Quince Orchard captured the title with a 53, followed by Linganore with a 43.

Class 4A saw records broken during their meet as well. Chris Moen of Walter Johnson, set a new 800m record finishing in 1:56.77.

Four different girls set individual records during the 4A meet. In the 55m, Olivia Okpone of Wootton set a record with a time of 7.05 seconds. Tasha Stanley of Roosevelt set a new 500m record by finishing in 1:13.62. Emily Vannoy of Thomas Johnson crushed the old shot put mark of 41' 10.75" set in 1990 by almost 4 feet (45' 9") and Jess Huber of North Carroll cleared 10' on the pole vault setting a new record by six inches.
