Winning is never easy as was the case with the State Wrestling Championships at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro this weekend.  Team champs and individual champs had to grind out methodical wins over tough opponents throughout the weekend.  When the last match concluded, Class 4A/3A crowned four new two-time champions and one new three-time champion while Class 2A/1A crowned one two-time, two three-time, and the sixth ever four-time champ in Middletown's Danny Bertoni at 138 lbs.  The team titles were successfully defended by last year's champs as Damascus topped Urbana, 123.5 - 99.0 for the Class 4A/3A title and South Carroll earned 166 points to Middletown's 140 points to retain their Class 2A/1A crown.   Damascus has won the team title for a third consecutive year while South Carroll has posted their fourth in a row!  Select the links below to view the brackets with complete tournament results for each of the two classifications (individuals and teams), a championship summary, as well as complete region tournament results.

Don't forget that you relive every move of every Consolation Final and Championship Final match on-demand on the NFHS Network.  On-demand viewing and DVD purchases are normally available to anyone within 72 hours of the event.   Also note that although the souvenir tournament apparel sold out on site, Nightmare Graphics has made their online store available for those who would still like to purchase one of the hooded sweatshirts.

The MPSSAA extends a hale and hearty "thank you" to not only the State Wrestling Committee, led by Director Brian Layman and State Tournament Director Michael Duffy, but to the huge cadre of workers and volunteers that pulled together and seamlessly managed an event of this magnitude.  We would also like to thank The Show Place Arena, especially Shannon Bethel and his crew, for their cooperation and support in providing such a great venue.  Congratulations to each wrestler, coach, and spectator for your participation and support.  We look forward to seeing everyone again next year when the show begins again!
