2009 Indoor Track Champions Prove That There Is No "I" In The Word "Team"

Eight team championships were contested over two days at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover and every squad put their best foot forward in the meet that they have been pointing toward all season.  Meet and classification records fell like dominoes all over the Sportsplex.  Click on the links contained in this article for complete results.

Congratulations are in order for Eleanor Roosevelt in Class 4A Girls and Middletown in Class 2A Girls for winning their second consecutive single classification titles.  Congratulations also to Western STES in Class 1A Boys, Westlake in Class 3A Boys, and  Williamsport in Class 1A Girls for turning last year's runner-up finishes into State Championships this year. As newcomers to the championship scene in indoor track, special kudos to first-time winners North Point in Class 2A Boys, Paint Branch in Class 3A Girls, and the co-champions in Class 4A Boys, Gaithersburg and Thomas Johnson.  This was the fourth tie in the history of the boys state championship meets dating back to 1972.  On the girls side, there have only been two ties for a team title in meet history since 1977.

The MPSSAA would like to thank the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex and their staff for the cooperation and support in putting on events of this magnitude in a first-class track facility.  Thanks also to the State Indoor Track & Field Committee and the multitude of workers, officials, and volunteers that assisted in running the region and state meets.  It could not be done without you!
